TARGETED INSTRUCTIONAL MANUALS
The staff of the National Paideia Center designed these books to serve two audiences. First, each manual can be used in support of formal training sessions in the Paideia Seminar, the Coached Project, or authentic Assessment. Second, they serve as stand-alone texts for those educators who are interested in one or more aspects of the Paideia classroom but who don't have access to formal training.
The first two manuals, entitled The Paideia Seminar: Active Thinking through Dialogue are comprehensive introductions to the theory and and practice of Paideia Seminar: one for elementary teachers and administrators (grade k-5) and the second for secondary teachers and administrators (grade 6-12).
The third manual, entitled Intellectual Coaching and the Coached Project is a thorough introduction to two aspects of "coaching" in the Paideia classroom: the facilitation of intellectual skill development and the re-design of traditional units into powerful coached projects featuring authentic products and performances.
The fourth manual, entitled Assessment for Teaching and Learning is a complete introduction to assessment and evaluation as an ongoing part of the learning process at both the school and classroom levels. This manual covers strategic planning and school-community assessment as well as the full spectrum of student and teacher assessment.
