"The desire to construct a tangible product of the highest quality is a powerful motivator for students, especially when that product has both intrinsic value for the students and value to an authentic external audience. Only when they sense the relevance and authenticity of classroom work will most students commit to the very real labor of learning." (Terry Roberts, NPC) |

Introduction to the Paideia Project
Would you like to design units of study that make your standards relevant for your students?
A Paideia Project is a unit of study that leads to a student production or performance of real value to an audience outside the classroom. It is designed specifically to create relevant classroom work that connects the standardized curriculum to the real world in which your students live.
This Institute is designed for teachers with some seminar experience who are ready to go on to advanced unit planning. You will learn the replicable planning process of the Paideia Project by working on a unit of your choice tailored to your classroom.
The goal is to prepare you to plan, lead, and assess Paideia Projects as a regular part of your classroom, thereby making the work that you require relevant for your students. Ultimately, the goal is for your students to engage with your subject in a focused and authentic way, learning the work habits that will last a lifetime. |
