Teaching American Government and History via The Paideia Seminar
The Paideia Seminar is a formal, intellectual dialogue facilitated with open-ended questions about a text. It is one of the most powerful ways to practice public dialogue while at the same time learning the concepts that are the foundation to our form of government.
This program is designed for government and history teachers who want to lead their students to understand history conceptually, so that they can think critically and problem solve. You will participate in a model American history seminar and will practice leading a variety of history and government seminar texts. The program will culminate with you writing a history or government seminar plan tailored specifically to your classroom.
The goal is to prepare you to lead effective Paideia Seminars in history, thereby teaching students to practice free speech, not just study it. Ultimately, the goal is to teach students how to govern themselves both individually and collectively. |
