"I think it has to do with preparing you for life ... you've got to look at a problem from all perspectives. You have to think harder, maybe think deeper so that you can take things in and give things back to the group." (high school student, from Gellatly, 1997)
Introduction to the Paideia Seminar: K-12
Would you like to help even your most unmotivated students understand and appreciate the ideas at the core of your curriculum?
The Paideia Seminar is a formal, intellectual dialogue facilitated with open-ended questions about a text. It is one of the most powerful ways to teach the ideas and values that shape your curriculum, thereby making it both more accessible and more relevant for your students.
The Seminar is designed specifically to teach your students to think critically while simultaneously enhancing their conceptual understanding of the curriculum. By engaging in seminar dialogue, students also practice a wide range of fundamental literacy skills: reading and writing in addition to speaking and listening.
This Institute is for K-12 teachers, across all subject areas. This training will prepare you to plan, lead, and assess Paideia Seminars so that your classroom or school will become an exciting and memorable learning environment.
