"...[T]eaching by asking questions ... stimulates the imagination and intellect by awakening the creative and inquisitive powers. In no other way can children's understanding of what they know be appreciated, and their appreciation of cultural objects be enhanced." (Adler, 1982)
Advanced Paideia Seminar Facilitation
Are you an experienced seminar facilitator who wonders why some seminars don't go as well as others? Who is concerned about how to teach students to think deeply and critically? Who would like to enhance your ability to design and ask questions?
Join us as we consider the finer points of seminar facilitation, including: identifying rich and paradoxical texts, designing and asking questions in the right sequence and at the right time, and guiding student self assessment.
This Institute will make you both more aware and effective as a seminar leader so that increasingly your seminars will evoke more sophisticated and more critical responses from a wider variety of students. The result will be an increased ability on the part of your students to understand and explain the complex ideas that shape your curriculum.
If you are serious about seminar dialogue, this is your opportunity to grow both in your understanding of the dynamic of discussion and in your ability to inspire it.
