"I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed the Paideia Seminar Training we received last week. That was the most valuable training I have ever received." (Seminar Training Participant, Summer 2007)
The Paideia Seminar
In the spring of 2005, Cris Crisman from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction videotaped a sixth grade seminar at Guy B. Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Instructional Facilitator Nealie Bourdon facilitated the seminar, and the class teacher, Becky Campbell, sat in as a participant. The class, a heterogeneously grouped sixth-grade Language Arts class discussed an eight-line poem by Emily Dickinson: “Tell all the Truth but tell it slant.” Woven into footage of the seminar itself is Cris Crisman’s interview with NPC Directory Terry Roberts, Nealie Bourdon, and Becky Campbell, wherein they reflect on the Paideia Seminar in general and this seminar in particular.
